I hate doing the grocery on Saturdays. I wasn’t organized enough this week, with the boys at home on Thursday (my usual market day) and Friday.
This morning I prepared our lunch. Tarzille's recipe for spicy brined chicken (finger licking good), rice and a simple salad. As usual, I rinsed and put aside on a remote corner of the counter the utensils, pots and pans I used during preparation. After we had lunch, I began to load the dishwasher and… Oh no! No more detergent. I looked at the counter… No, I won’t wash and then dry by hand that horrendously big pile of dirty dishes.
I went to the grocery store and… I should have washed the dishes by hand. It was crowded. I don’t have much patience in crowded places, but when the crowd moves (or doesn’t move, which can sometimes be even more frustrating) with shopping carts as if they were driving a car in the middle of a snow storm and right after a day of freezing rain, it just puts me in such a bad mood.
Of course, I have some supplies that are almost or totally exhausted at home, like brown sugar, freezer bags, a ruler for my son who broke his at school and… Dishwasher detergent. Of course, here I am after my grocery shopping, with a trunk full of goods, and no dishwasher detergent, ruler, brown sugar or freezer bags. I forgot to buy the most needed things and manage to buy yet an other can of coconut milk (I have 3 in the pantry) or totally unnecessary stuff like battery powered tooth brushes for the boys.
But hey, I’m the one able to shop in the more quiet and relaxed atmosphere of the middle of the week and yet manage to do it on the “working people shopping days”.
So if anybody is looking for me, I’m grounded for my thoughtlessness, I’m washing the dishes by hand.

Oh Sailu that would be just so wonderful to be neighbours. Can you imagine? I'm smiling warmly too at the thought of such a situation. Sigh...
this dish looks so comforting after the day you had.
Hi Kat,
Yes, it was very nice and fullfilling. It made up for the grocery adventure.
