They played Mafia during the whole week, big playmobil cars, heists in their big brother’s desk drawers, Police ambush to seize their father’s Canadian Tire money hidden in his workshop, prohibition on pulp-less orange juice… It was Mafia crazy this week in our home. They needed a Sunday lunch worthy of their criminal organization.
I made them things they love so much they could eat them all week long without a complaint. Moroccan style shrimps (which Mark Bittman made his simply by calling them “shrimps my way” in his book “How to Cook Everything”), sautéed diced potatoes and cut-up radishes.
Peel and dice (the smaller, the better) 2 potatoes per person. Blanch them, starting in cold salted water for 1 minute after water begins to boil. Strain. Heat oil (olive oil here since we’re eating Moroccan shrimps) in a pan and fry potatoes until golden.

Preheat the oven on the broil position. In a large pan mix together 3 grated cloves of garlic, 1 tablespoon cumin, 2 tablespoons paprika, salt and pepper to taste, juice of 1 lemon, a good handful each fresh parsley and fresh cilantro finely chopped, 2 pounds uncooked (grey) big shrimps (doesn’t matter if still frozen).

Put the pan as near as possible to the red-hot broiler and cook until the shrimps are all pink and begin to brown.
Serve with cut-up radishes, good crusted bread and fresh water since pulp-less orange juice in prohibited right now.

this looks spicy, but oh so good!
Hi Zoubida
This looks wonderful. I LOVE shrimp and am always looking for a new way to cook them. The bf won't touch them...which means more shrimp for me :)

Hi K&S,
They are spicy but mild in taste. Not the "hot" kind of spicy. And so much juices to dip the crusty bread in!
Hi Jasmine!
Ah! I wish they didn't like shrimps here. Everybody is so fond of them you'd better be quick at eating yours here if you don't want them to disapear mysteriously while you're looking elsewhere.
What a great lunch! It looks delicious. I made the scourtins last week, but as a triangular slice and bake. Even non-olive lovers liked them.
I don't eat shrimps, but I would have happily feasted, proper mafia style, on your sauteed potato dice and radishes instead:)
I have to try making one of these Zou. I have about 30 more days to go though because of Lent and I am running out of food ideas. LOL. I might try this one. Keep writing and cooking Zou! I miss you.
Hi Kathy,
Aren't scourtins great for company? I'n glad they were successfull for you too.
Pille, you're like my nephiew. He doesn't like shrimps neither. He was part of the mafia that day and I made him an omelette. But if you like fish, you can marinate it in the same ingredients I used for the shrimps and then either bake it on a bed of vegies or dredge it with flour and sauté it.
Hi Kathyrose,
Maybe you tried the shrimp already. It's a favorite of Celene's husband too :-).
I miss you too!
